Why I Tell Every Buyer the Same Thing: Skip the Middleman, Call the Factory

You ever get that sinking feeling after wiring a deposit? Like you just handed money to a stranger who promised you the world, and now you’re refreshing your inbox hoping for a shipping update that never comes?

I’ve heard those stories too many times. A buyer in Ohio once told me he lost $15,000 on a container of sinks because the trading company went dark after the first shipment had rust spots. He tried to sue. Good luck chasing a shell company across continents.

That’s why I run things differently. My family started this factory thirty years ago. We cast our own blanks, fire them in our own kilns, inspect every single piece before it goes into the box, and pack it ourselves. There is no subcontractor. There is no “sales office” that forwards your emails to someone else. When you talk to me, you’re talking to the guy who walks past the casting line every morning. Why I Tell Every Buyer the Same Thing: Skip the Middleman, Call the Factory 1

Last week a client from California sent me a sketch on a napkin. He wanted a custom basin depth, a brushed nickel finish, and his logo stamped on the bottom. I took the napkin to our mold shop. Three days later he had a sample. That’s not normal in this industry. Most factories would make him wait two weeks while the middleman “checked with engineering.”

Honestly, I think the whole export game is broken. Too many layers. Too many people taking a cut without adding value. If you’re buying from us, you get one point of contact, one production schedule, one set of specs that doesn’t get lost in translation. And yes, we handle all the paperwork — certificate of origin, bill of lading, lead-free compliance docs. You don’t need a freight forwarder who speaks Chinese. We do that part.

Am I saying we’re perfect? No. Sometimes a batch of enamel comes out slightly off-color, and we have to scrap it. But you’ll know about it the same day, not after the ship sails. Because we’d rather lose a few pieces than lose a customer.

So here’s my pitch: next time you get a quote from a trading company, ask them one question — where is your factory? If they can’t give you an address and a name of the person running the kiln, walk away. Call someone who owns the whole line.
